After spending nearly a month in Exmouth, we finally got out to Mesa campground. This was a location we found on our first recon drive to checkout what was on offer in the Cape Range area. The reason we loved the look of it so much? It’s one of the only camps where you can drive out onto the beach from the campsite.
Unfortunately our 3day stay was cut short! This time of year (November) on the west coast is frustratingly windy hence the local name ‘Blowvember’ lol… We managed to stay a day and checkout something that we have been eyeing off for a few weeks. It’s not visible from the road but a cool location that offers something special…
Pilgonoman Gorge, located just south after Kurrajong Campground is up a small dirt road that disappears into the bush on your left. Follow to the end (roughly 1km) and you’ll find yourself at a carpark with a sign explaining what’s ahead.
A short 250m walk through some scrub and you’ll find yourself standing at the entry of a huge gorge. The landscape is just incredible and stunning, to think the coast is right there and you have this not too far away. The huge highlight of this walk is the large number of rock wallabies ???? we must of seen over a half dozen easy and that was with Jack yelling! lol
Unfortunately, we didn’t see much of Mesa, but still made some great memories with our short stay. If you’re in the area, highly recommend checking it out… It’s a cracking spot.
