“They advise it’s a 2hr walk each way”
Can honestly say this was for us personally our favourite stop on the Gibb why you ask?
Few things on offer when you arrive, you have the Barnett roadhouse which has available fuel both unleaded & diesel a small grocery store inside the roadhouse plus a water top up point across the road.
The campground at Manning gorge is large with a decent amount of sites to choose from. You have toilets & washing machines onsite also which can be a life savers for some at $4 per load. You have a large creek system only a short walk from camp that is large enough for everyone to relax & swim, complete with rope swing 😉
The gorge walk itself is definitely the huge highlight of your stay at manning and for very good reason! You start from the creek near the campground by swimming your way over from one side to the other. So make sure you can dry yourself off on the other side, they do also supply blue floatable containers to use to float your gear over with.
They advise it’s a 2hr walk each way, so make sure you have plenty of water as it can get very hot plus a good pair of walking shoes. The hike is pretty easy but does have it fair share of steep rocky climb up & down so take your time. But once at the gorge you’ll understand very quickly why everyone raves about this place! Hot tip leave for the hike super early as it’s not as hot and you’ll beat the crowds, we left at sunrises and basically had the place to ourselves.
