Mataranka

The Area

One thing we know about the Territory is that it has a lot of awesome natural springs to checkout & swim in. We never expected anything like what we saw in Mataranka! Bloody hell, what a place to stop and experience these amazing fresh water springs. The water was just next level!! ⁣

Our first experience was at Bitter Springs which is located only 10mins from town. This is an untouched natural spring that you can jump in at one end and float to the other to jump out and do it all again. Make sure to grab some pool noodles from the servo in town before heading out. ⁣

The second spring we visited was the Thermal Pools in Elsey National Park, located right at the back of the caravan park we were staying at, Mataranka Homestead. It’s a short 5 minute walk from the sites down to the most stunning natural springs pool you’ll ever see! It’s a man made pool with fresh water springs running through. ⁣

What's on offer

Both pool locations are accessible by pram and have paved paths right to the edge of the water. Our personal pick out of the two was by far the Thermal Pool though. It feels a lot safer and it’s very kid friendly, especially for Jack. It’s also a really well built area to chill out and relax for a large amount of people at anytime. You could deadset stay there for hours, we spent a good 2hrs swimming around, it was amazing. ⁣

Definitely a must do if you head north in the NT! We stayed at the Mataranka Homestead just outside of town. A site with power and water was $35 plus, don’t forget it’s minutes away from the most amazing pool you will have ever swam in! 🥰
